Hunky Punk Project 2

Updated: Dec 18, 2024

The Arts Hub was really lucky to work on another Hunky Punk project in collaboration with East Harptree School and the Newton Project with St Laurence Church. Artist in residence Louis Neale and local artist and villager Patrick Barker ran 3 after school sessions with 9 children between years 4 - 6 at the school.

St Laurence Church has an array of original decorative hunky punks on the church towers and the children were tasked to recreate their own version using clay.  It was interesting to see how differently the sculptures were made (some in flat relief!) in comparison to the first Hunky Punk project. We were thrilled to see how creative and unique each sculpture was!

There was an exhibition of the sculpted Hunky Punks at St Laurence Church, East Harptree, on 14-15th December. The exhibition highlights the hidden rarities of historic Somerset culture and the lost crafts that people and communities once dedicated themselves to.

Feedback and photos of the children creating their hunky punks:

"I enjoyed learning about the hunky punks and art"

"I haven't done anything like this before"

"I enjoyed all of it (especially the clay)"
